Description
This Mix-Ready template is made for Hardcore riffs and blast beats.
I challenged myself again to use as many free plugins as possible for this mix. Naturally, the drums and amp sims are paid plugins, but apart from that it's only the JST Gain Reduction Deluxe vocal compressor and Waves CLA-76 compressor. Most of the mix is done with free and stock plugins.
--- about the demo song ---
Recording and mixing the tracks for Fortune Teller by Stray from the Path was a lot of fun. I tried my best to capture that "in your face" sound, that is driven by the kick and snare.
The obvious choice for the drums: the GGD "The Downbeat" kit. They captured the sound of Craig Reynolds drum kit to perfection and it sounds amazing in any type of heavy music. I even did a test mix with some drop F guitars and the snare just cut right through the wall of guitars.
The original mix of "Fortune Teller" had a beefy low-end, so I was very happy with the thick bass sound that I got, using the free Growler bass amp plugin.
For guitars I went with my trusty Neural DSP Gojira X and Nolly X amp sims. They sound perfect to me in this mix - However, if you want to replace the amp sims, feel free to send me an email and we can talk about a customization.
The screams were provided by my dude Stephen Chris. Although his screaming style is slightly different from Andrew Dijorio, he did an amazing job capturing the aggressive vibe of this song. Check out his band Elmyra and show them some love.
