What is a Mix-Ready template?
The Mix-Ready templates are pre-mixed project files for your DAW (digital audio workstation). The routing, naming, balancing and mixing of all the individual tracks is already done and you can immediately start writing professional sounding music with it.
We have templates for these DAWs:
Once you placed your order, you will immediately receive a download link for the Mix-Ready template files.
The download includes:
- the project files
- in-depth instructions
- the MIDI file for the demo song
- Kontakt presets, drum maps, etc.
The Mix-Ready Songwriting templates also include the raw DI recordings and additional MIDI. So you get a full mix session with all settings and audio files. Please refer to the description on the product page to see what's included in the template.
Just open the project file and everything will load automatically. You can listen to the demo song and analyze the individual tracks with their plugins and processing.
I include the drum MIDI files of my YouTube demo songs in the project, so that you can see the MIDI mapping and MIDI velocity. The Mix-Ready Songwriting Templates include all the DI tracks too - so you can listen to the raw recordings and see how everything sums up to the final mix. Every template includes master bus processing - so you can export your music and it will have a commercial loudness level.
Now fill the template with your own music and get creative!
Please refer to the description of the template (below the sound demo video) to see a list of the plugins that you need. Most of my templates need only the stock plugins of the DAW and maybe some additional (free) plugins.
My goal is to make the templates accessible to everyone and not only those with a large library of expensive boutique plugins. If possible, I always use VST3 versions of 64-bit plugins.
Kontakt 6 or Kontakt 7
I updated most of my Mix-Ready templates to Kontakt 7, but some templates are still using Kontakt 6.
Native Access rolled out Kontakt 7 in 2022 but they missed to make it downwards compatible. So you can't open Kontakt 6 presets and projects with Kontakt 7.
Luckily, you can install Kontakt 6 just fine and even use it next to Kontakt 7 with no issues.
Kontakt 6 - Installation
Please open Native Access and go to Preferences - Legacy Products. Now enable Show discontinued products and you will be able to install Kontakt 6. Here's a screenshot.
How to find Kontakt 6 in the DAW
1.) Open Native Access and check for updates. You can also view the current version and installation path of Kontakt 6. Here's a screenshot.
2.) Make sure that your DAW scans this exact installation path - and finds the correct Kontakt.dll
Sometimes after updating Kontakt 6, the DAW will continue to open the old version of Kontakt, because the old Kontakt.dll is still somewhere on the system. Please delete any old Kontakt.dll files that you don't need anymore.
If all this didn't work for you or you are still looking for more information, feel free to send an e-mail to georg@mix-ready.com and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Kontakt 8
Just when I updated most of my Mix-Ready templates to Kontakt 7, Native Access release Kontakt 8.
I will use Kontakt 8 for the new templates but I'll keep the existing templates at Kontakt 7 - because there are no issues, and you can still download Kontakt 7 via Native Access.
Kontakt Output Routing
If you are experiencing problems like:
- Some kit pieces are not audible or low in volume
- Some output channels are not showing
- Some channels are mono, but should be stereo
Open the original Mix-Ready template (without any changes made) and open the Kontakt interface. Go to the Kontakt output mixer section and click on 'Presets / Batch Configuration' and then 'save current output section state as default for' --> VST Plugin.
Now reopen your DAW and the Mix-Ready template. All the Kontakt output channels should be there and routed correctly!
Further steps for Studio One:
If you're still missing some Kontakt output channels in the Studio One mixer, please add the missing output channels manually, by ticking the boxes as shown here (the names will be different, depending on the template)
Now save the project under a different name, close Studio One and open the original Mix-Ready template again. All channels should now load properly!
Kontakt Error Message: "Kontakt instances cannot be recalled correctly"
"One or more Kontakt instances cannot be recalled correctly, perhaps due to missing content."
Kontakt is searching for the Kontakt library in the wrong file path. Just click on Browse for folder and select the installation folder of the Kontakt library.
In some of the Mix-Ready templates you will need free plugins like TDR Slick EQ, Molot compressor or Limiter No6.
These incredible plugins have been around for a while but unfortunately their developers don't update them anymore. That's why sometimes it's difficult to get them running on newer macOS.
Here is a video on how I managed to use them on my mac with macOS Catalina. If this doesn't work for you, feel free to send me an email to georg@mix-ready.com and I will try to swap out these plugins for you in the template.
Custom Templates
I am offering customizations for any of my existing Mix-Ready templates. This could be adjustments like:
- Replacing the mixing plugins (free plugins, Waves, Slate, FabFilter, Soundtoys, JST, GGD, etc.)
- Replacing the amp sims (Neural DSP, STL, free amp sims, etc.)
- Replacing the drum libraries (GetGood Drums, Toontrack, MixWave, ML SoundLab, etc.)
Simply reach out to me via e-mail and we can talk about the details:
These are the prices for customizing any of my existing Mix-Ready templates:
Replacing the mixing plugins
- starts at 20€
- depends on the plugins available and the working time
Replacing the amp sims
- starts at 30€
- depends on the number of tracks and working time
Replacing the drum libraries
- starts at 50€
- depends on the drum samples that you want to use. Adding a new drum kit to an existing mix will require serious re-mixing and re-balancing - that's why I need to charge more for it.
- please note that not every drum library will work in any mix. For example: It is hard to mimic a modern, explosive drum sound like GetGood Drums, with Toontrack drum samples.
